Where is Bruges? It's a small medieval town an hour's train ride north of Brussels. It's a place I'd never heard of until the day before we decided to go.
But I'm so glad we went. And to think I wasn't totally convinced about going until I talked to a random family from the States in the middle of Grand Place that had just got back from Bruges. They said we HAD to go, and on the weekends the train tickets were half price... which was definitely all the more reason why we had to go.
We caught the train to Bruges on Sunday and were pleasantly surprised that the sun decided to join us as well. It was the best day we had yet in terms of weather, it was sunny and warm finally. We made it to Bruges and wandered out of the train station trying to figure out what to do. Eventually we decided on sitting next to the little canal that was just outside the train station to eat our lunch.
After our baguettes we walked up the path and came upon this:

I felt like I was in the Notebook or something seeing a river full of swans....
We pretty much just wandered the town in awe. It felt like I just stepped back in time.
We climbed a bell tower to get a vantage point of the town and since it was such a nice day we got to see for miles.

| Market Square |
After seeing the aerial view, we headed into Market Square for an afternoon pint. I chose to try the Belgium beer called a Kwak. It's served to you in a glass like this, and tastes absolutely delicious. So good that I had to have another one later before we left.
Our last night in Brussels was spent sitting on the steps in Grand Place watching the light show and eating our last Belgium waffle.
